Sobriety Gets Harder When You Ignore These 2 Things
Addiction recovery, sobriety, nutrition, sleep, relapse prevention, healthy eating, recovery habits, and energy all play a role in building a stronger recovery.
Hello folks, John Paul DeMann here.
Today I want to talk about two things that I believe deserve far more attention in sobriety: nutrition and sleep.
Recovery is already difficult. When you're exhausted, undernourished, and running on empty, making good decisions can become even harder.
That is why taking care of your body matters.
Food affects how we feel physically and mentally. Eating consistently and giving your body enough protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vegetables, and other nutrients can help support your overall health while you recover.
You do not have to make nutrition complicated.
One simple approach I have used is thinking about reasonable portions instead of obsessively measuring everything. Build meals around quality protein, vegetables, carbohydrates, and healthy fats that work for you.
And then there is sleep.
Sleep gives the brain and body time to recover. When we are exhausted, our judgment, mood, and ability to cope with stress can suffer.
If you are working toward sobriety, do not overlook the fundamentals.
Eat.
Sleep.
Move.
Take care of your body.
And give yourself the strongest possible foundation to keep making the next right decision.
Recovery is not built with one huge decision.
It is built through the small things you continue doing every day.
